What Powers Life in Just One Day

Every day our lives are shaped by what we see, where we go and what we do, and these actions are greatly attributed to modern conveniences powered by low cost electricity from coal. In just one day, the world is energized by 21 million tonnes of coal. Coal fuels more energy than any other source and is by far the world’s lowest cost major source of power.

Supreme Court Pushes Back on EPA Overreach

Peabody Energy President and Chief Executive Officer Glenn Kellow today praised the Supreme Court’s decision to overturn the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency’s (EPA) Mercury and Air Toxics Standards (MATS) rule for power plant emissions.

EPA Clean Power Plan Will Hit Blacks and Hispanics Hardest

The Obama administration, the Environmental Protection Agency and environmental activists frequently claim that climate change will disproportionately affect poor and minority communities.
This, they argue, justifies unprecedented environmental regulations like the EPA's soon-to-be-finalized "Clean Power Plan" to cut U.S. greenhouse gas emissions by 30% by 2030.
But what effect will the regulation itself have on minority communities? A new study commissioned by my organization, the National Black Chamber of Commerce, answers this question.

Peabody Energy Honor's Germany's Trianel With Clean Coal Award For Achieving Best Emissions Performance

Peabody Energy honored Germany’s Trianel Kohlekraftwerk Lünen GmbH & Co KG (Trianel) and its Lünen plant with an Advanced Energy for Life Clean Coal Award recognizing global leadership in deploying high-efficiency clean coal technologies that deliver ultra-low emissions.

Peabody Energy Honors Indian Power Plants With Clean Coal Awards For Achieving Lowest Emissions

Peabody Energy honored Essar Power and CLP India with Advanced Energy for Life (AEFL) Clean Coal Awards recognizing leadership in deploying clean coal technologies that deliver low emissions. Presented at the Power-Gen India Conference in New Delhi, the honors recognize the best 2014 environmental performance of India’s coal-fueled power plants based on self-nominated emissions data for sulfur dioxide (SO2), nitrogen oxides (NOx) and heat rate, the measure of a plant’s efficiency.

Coal: A Powerful Force for Creating Global Energy Access

Bringing electricity to developing nations has been a global effort for the past 20 years and, according to a recent study released by the Manhattan Institute’s Center for Energy Policy and the Environment, coal has brought light, economic prosperity and a higher standard of living to hundreds of millions of people… far more than any other source of energy.

NCC: Why We Should Speed Deployment of Carbon Capture and Storage Technology

Society faces the twin energy challenges of providing affordable electricity to satisfy continued global demand and creating electricity access for billions who lack proper power.

The Clean Power Plan is Unconstitutional

The EPA acts as though it has the legislative authority to re-engineer the nation’s electric generating system and power grid. It does not.

As a law professor, I taught the nation’s first environmental law class 45 years ago. As a lawyer, I have supported countless environmental causes. And as a father and grandfather, I want to leave the Earth in better shape than when I arrived.
