Advanced Energy for Life "Clean Coal Awards"

Coal fuels more than 40 percent of global electricity, more than any other fuel. It has been the world’s fastest-growing major fuel source over the past decade and is set to surpass oil as the world’s largest global energy source in coming years.

Peabody Energy is the world's largest private-sector coal company and a global leader in sustainable mining, energy access and clean coal solutions. Peabody is proud to sponsor the Advanced Energy for Life (AEFL) Clean Coal Awards, recognizing the best environmental performance achieved among the global coal fleet, based on key emission and efficiency rates.

The awards recognize leadership in deploying advanced coal technologies that deliver ultra-low emissions. Globally, one new 500-megawatt coal plant is being brought on line every three days, and the majority of this power is being developed as high- efficiency supercritical generation that delivers low emissions. As the world continues to use more coal, broad deployment of supercritical technology with advanced controls – available and in use today – should be the global standard.

2014 was the inaugural year for the awards and was hosted at the Power-Gen International Conference in Orlando, Florida, U.S., recognizing three, major U.S. coal-fueled power plants. This year, we wish to recognize the “cleanest” coal plants, in 5 global geographies including: India, Europe, Eastern Asia (excluding China) and North America.
